Discussing the TED Talk
In your small group, please discuss the following:
- Share your names, where you live, and your children’s ages
- How is being a parent today different from your parents’ generation?
- Do you think there is more or less pressure on children today than what you experienced growing up? Why do you think that’s the case?

Discussing the TED Talk
- Lythcott-Haims speaks of kids experiencing a “check-listed childhood” (a frenzy of activities, scores, classes, etc. designed specifically to impress college admission boards), but it could also be argued that there is inherent value in each of those things. Do you buy her central thesis, or do you want to push back on aspects of it?
- What similarities, if any, do you see between her idea of “love and chores”, and our understanding of who we are called to be as Christ’s disciples?
- In what ways do you hope your child’s experiences here at church, or in your own family’s discussions about faith, are shaping their identity?
